Beauty R00Lz: Fake Freckles

I’ve always wanted a strategically placed mole or a peppering of freckles across my nose – sans any UV damage. But is coveting freckles a case of envying the (seemingly) greener pastures from my current standing point? Probably. Thankfully, with makeup I can try the look out and decide if this desire is warranted or not.

The beauty rule I’m breaking this week: Don’t draw temporary spots on our skin for no reason (I guess?).

Who was it that first piqued my interest in freckles? Was it the peppy pre-Mean Girls Lindsay Lohan? Wendy, the guarder of Frostys? Nope, it was definitely those famous snaps of Kate the Great by Corinne Day. The freckles gave Kate a genuine girl-next-door vibe that still feels refreshing.

The Tools:

You will want a soft eyeliner or eyebrow pencil to draw on your freckles. If you have a skin tone that is warm, you’ll want a pencil that’s a warmer brown and a more neutral pencil if you have a cooler skin tone. A fluffy makeup brush and foundation power will also come in handy.

Attempt One:

Every time I looked into a mirror I was very alarmed by the new addition(s) to my face. I just took a pencil and randomly dotted away the first time. The result was a set of fake doll-like freckles that would be acceptable if I was cast as Pippi Longstocking in a school play. Fortunately they disappeared by the end of the day and only a light smudge of brown was left by the bridge of my nose.

Attempt Two:

There was a change of technique the second time around. With varying degrees of pressure I dotted the pencil across my nose and on my cheeks. I made sure to make some larger, some smaller, some lighter and some darker to mimic real freckles as closely as possible. I used a more neutral toned pencil and brushed a bit of powder over my freckles to simultaneously set and soften them. Nobody noticed them this time around – does that mean they look natural? I’m just going to convince myself that it did.

Final Thoughts:

So, I have come to terms with the fact that I cannot have freckles. To all the girls out there whose freckles are au naturel: I am totally jealous, please stop flaunting them in my face. I rate this look 4 spots on my nose out of 10 due to how unpractical it would be to redraw them every morning. I mean, do I have to draw them exactly the same each time? Will someone notice? Are thy supposed to look fake or real?? Too many questions and not enough answers.
